Realizing Africa’s ICPD25 commitments to advance the sexual and reproductive health and the rights of the continent’s young people and women

Work in this area seeks to develop a programme of Africa-led and Africa-centred collaborative research that supports the realization of commitments African countries have made to address and end gender-based violence.

With funding from the Perivoli Foundation and together with the African Population and Health Research Center and UNFPA and in conjunction with the University of Bristol Elizabeth Blackwell Institute and Centre for Gender and Violence Research, we have supported a rapid assessment of the extent, drivers and barriers to progress in realizing ICPD25 commitments on GBV in Kenya, South Africa and Zambia, and of programmatic action and evidence required to overcome the bottlenecks.

Building on the assessment findings a co-creation workshop, to be convened by APHRC and the UNFPA Eastern and Southern Africa regional office will bring together key scholars, policy and civil society actors to pinpoint priority areas and approaches for research to help advance action on GBV in the three countries and the subregions broadly.
