Discussions at the Charter Launch

Toward change: realising principles and aspirations of the Africa Charter in the UK

A dialogue on perspectives, opportunities and approaches

Together with the UK Collaborative on Development Research (UKCDR), PARC is convening a first dialogue of key UK higher education, science and research actors to consider opportunities and approaches for realising the ambitions of the Africa Charter within the context of evolving UK equitable partnerships efforts.

The dialogue will bring together key representatives* of UK-global HEI, university networks, publishers, research funders and assessment bodies to jointly:

  • Consider Charter principles and aspirations and their relevance to evolving UK perspectives on equity in Africa–‘North’ research collaborations and in the global scientific effort, broadly
  • Consider the planned initiative to realise the Charter’s ambitions – and identify opportunities, avenues and approaches for its pursuit within the context of wider UK equitable research partnerships efforts
  • Determine next steps and plans for continued dialogue

It will be an in-person event hosted at the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), but with remote connection for colleagues who cannot attend.

*With African Research Universities Alliance, Association of Commonwealth Universities, Bristol University Press, British Academy, Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, Research England, Springer Nature, Sussex University, UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), University of Leeds, University of Manchester, Universities UK – International, and the Wellcome Trust.
