Fondation de France 

These aim to improve male-female relationships and to encourage the joint participation of men and women in decision-making in matters of sexuality, prevention and treatment. Funding is available for up to three years.

This recognises an individual or institution whose contributions to African agriculture are forging a new era of sustainable food security and economic opportunity for all Africans. The prize is worth USD 100,000.

LEO Pharma Research Foundation 

This recognises young scientists who have made important contributions within the field of dermatology research. The award is worth USD 100,000.

Queen Elizabeth Commonwealth scholarships 

Association of Commonwealth Universities 

These enable students from Commonwealth countries in conducting a two-year master’s degree. Scholarships cover tuition fees, return airfare, an arrival allowance and a regular stipend.

Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists 

This recognises an article on a topic of obstetrics or gynaecology derived from work carried out in Africa between the tropics of Cancer and Capricorn. The prize is worth £150.

African wildlife rapid action grants 

International Union for Conservation of Nature 

These support civil society organisations and public entities engaged in the conservation of threatened species in South Africa in carrying out urgent conservation measures at local level to protect the species and their habitat. Grants are worth up to €100,000 each for a maximum period of 12 months.

Africa fellowship programme 

World Bank 

This enables young African scholars to spend a minimum of six months at the World Bank in Washington, DC, or country offices, getting hands-on experience in development work. Fellowships each include coverage of consultant fees, round-trip economy airfare and worker’s compensation insurance.

Science by Women Programme 

Women for Africa Foundation | Fundacion Mujeres por Africa 

This enables African women researchers to spend six months in one of the participating research centres in Spain. Fellowships cover a return flight and a monthly allowance of €2,400 towards accommodation, personal expenses and insurance.
