BPI / PARC webinar: ‘Poverty and Inequality Dimensions of COVID-19 in Africa’.

November 12, 2020 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

The Bristol Poverty Institute (BPI) are pleased to announce the third event in our new webinar series exploring the impacts of the COVID-19 on those experiencing, and/or at risk of falling into, poverty. We are delighted to be co-hosting this event on the poverty and inequality dimensions of COVID-19 in Africa with the University of Bristol’s new Perivoli Africa Research Centre (PARC).

The webinar will provide a broad overview of how COVID-19 is intersecting with and exacerbating inequalities and poverty in Africa. This will set the scene for further work in collaboration with African stakeholders to identify key priority areas in which research can help tackle the systemic gaps that have been dramatically laid bare by the pandemic, recognising the huge breadth of challenges, geographies, societies, political and physical environments, and other dimensions of both poverty and COVID-19 on the continent.

The introductory webinar will consist of a series of 15minute presentations, with opportunity for Q&A following each presentation. Panellists will explore various factors including sociological, medical, political, and cultural dimensions, building on their respective knowledge and experience from different sectors. We have a fantastic panel of speakers confirmed for this event:

Professor David Gordon, Bristol Poverty Institute, University of Bristol, UK

Professor Isabella Aboderin, Perivoli Africa Research Centre, University of Bristol, UK

Dr Rafael Mitchell, School of Education, University of Bristol

Dr Injairu Kulundu-Bolus, Environmental Learning Research Centre, Rhodes University, South Africa
